Our Programme

Our programme is based on Te Whaariki, The New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum with influences from the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education particularly in the area of the visual arts.

Do we teach literacy (reading and writing) in our centre? Yes, yes and yes.

We are totally committed to the development of literacy skills of the children in our centre.

Literacy learning is integrated across the whole centre and is woven throughout all aspects of the curriculum
• We offer literacy experiences to all age groups - not just those close to school age.
• Literacy learning is related to the children's interest and abilities. It starts the moment they walk in our door.
• We believe that offering meaningful and appropriate literacy experiences is the best way to foster a life long love of literacy.
• We view children as capable and competent learners. It is our aim to foster independence and success in the process of learning to
read and write. We do this by enduring that resources and materials are available, by modeling the use of literacy through the daily programme and by providing the literacy skills as needed.
